Short term assessment of nutrients and physicochemical parameters considering different depths in a hypersaline lagoon – Araruama Lagoon –RJ

نویسندگان

چکیده

The Araruama lagoon water quality has deteriorated at an accelerated pace during the last decades, mainly due to expansion of urban occupation. nutrients input increased by domestic effluents could reach eutrophication, which may cause episodes algal blooms and fish mortalities. aim this study was evaluate stratification parameters in same sampling campaign. Eleven samples were collected surface, middle, bottom along lagoon. For each sample, following analyzed: biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), dissolved (DO), turbidity, particulate organic carbon (POC), nitrogen phosphorus (dissolved particulate). hydrodynamic characterization showed that regardless connection with ocean, a large part is more influenced winds than tides. In general, homogeneous behavior column. results DO BOD5 confirmed highly oxygenated. High values combined result rates ratio (N:P) show P limiting factor. concentrations BOD5, total phosphorus, chlorophyll-a phaeopigments corroborate result.

Cyanobacterial Diversity in Microbial Mats from the Hypersaline Lagoon System of Araruama, Brazil: An In-depth Polyphasic Study

Microbial mats are complex, micro-scale ecosystems that can be found in a wide range of environments. In the top layer of photosynthetic mats from hypersaline environments, a large diversity of cyanobacteria typically predominates. With the aim of strengthening the knowledge on the cyanobacterial diversity present in the coastal lagoon system of Araruama (state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), we ha...

Algal fossils from a late precambrian, hypersaline lagoon.

Organically preserved algal microfossils from the Ringwood evaporite deposit in the Gillen Member of the Bitter Springs Formation (late Precambrian of central Australia) are of small size, low diversity, and probable prokaryotic affinities. These rather primitive characteristics appear to reflect the stressful conditions that prevailed in a periodically stagnant, hypersaline lagoon. This assemb...

Assessment of the trophic state of a hypersaline-carbonatic environment: Vermelha Lagoon (Brazil)

Vermelha Lagoon is a hypersaline shallow transitional ecosystem in the state of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). This lagoon is located in the protected area of Massambaba, between the cities of Araruama and Saquarema (Brazil), and displays two quite uncommon particularities: it exhibits carbonate sedimentation and displays the development of Holocene stromatolites. Due to both particularities, the sal...

Anoxygenic photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation by a microbial mat community in a bahamian hypersaline lagoon.

Simultaneous measurements of photosynthesis (both oxygenic and anoxygenic) and N(inf2) fixation were conducted to discern the relationships between photosynthesis, N(inf2) fixation, and environmental factors potentially regulating these processes in microbial mats in a tropical hypersaline lagoon (Salt Pond, San Salvador Island, Bahamas). Major photoautotrophs included cyanobacteria, purple pho...
